Flight Training
The Flight Instructor Course is one of Ravenair's longest running approved courses, where candidates learn how to teach the demanding PPL syllabus. Before starting the FI Course a pre-entry test must be passed to assess the ability of the applicant to undertake the course. Five of the 30 hours can be flown as 'mutual' time, whereby two canditates practice their instructor patter by teaching each other specific air exercises. The course is completed by successfully passing a flight test with an examiner.
Requirements for obtaining a FI Rating:
- Must hold a CPL or a PPL with all the CPL (or ATPL) theoretical knowledge exams passed
- Must hold a valid SEP rating
- Minimum of 30 hours flight training:
- 25 hours dual instruction
- 5 hours may be as mutual flying with another FI applicant to practice flight demonstrations
- 125 hours of theoretical knowledge instruction:
- 40 hours tuition
- 78 hours teaching practice
- 7 hours progress tests
- Final Skill Test with a Flight Instructor Examiner, comprising ground lectures and an airborne flight test

Ravenair offer three different removal of restrictions from the FI rating
Removal of 'No Applied Instrument' Restriction from FI (A) Rating:
- 5 hours dual flight with a Flight Instructor Course (FIC) Instructor
- 10 hours theoretical training
- Skills Test with a Flight Instructor Examiner (FIE)

- 1 hour flight at night with an FC instructor
- Theoretical training
Addition of 'Single Pilot Multi-Engine' privileges to FI (A) Rating:
- 5 hours dual flight training in the PA34 Seneca
- 10 hours theoretical training
- Skills Test with a suitably qualified Flight Instructor Examiner (FIE)
