JAR Multi-Engine Piston (MEP) Rating

Even those who do not wish to pursue a professional flying career often want to be able to fly a higher performance aircraft than that used for PPL training. With a MEP Rating you can fly one of Ravenair's larger and more powerful aircraft like the Piper Aztec or Piper Seneca. They allow flight in icing conditions and have a capacity for five passengers. Learning how to control the aircraft under asymmetric power forms the major part of the MEP Rating.

Requirements for obtaining a MEP:

  • Minimum of 6 hours flight training:
    • 2 hours 30 minutes dual instruction under normal conditions of Multi-Engine operations
    • 3 hours 30 minutes dual instruction in engine failure procedures and asymmetric flight techniques
  • 7 hours mandatory groundschool
  • Passing the 1 written exam (75% or higher)
  • Passing the Final Airborne Skill Test with Flight Examiner
