Part-FCL Flight Instructor Certificate – FI(A)
If you have a Part-FCL pilots licence, you can extend the privileges of your licence by adding a night rating.
The Flight Instructor Course is one of Ravenair’s longest running approved courses, where candidates learn how to teach the demanding PPL syllabus. We also offer the addition of night privileges to the FI Certificate and the Instrument Rating Instructor.

Requirements to start course:

An applicant for an FI certificate shall:
-
have received at least 10 hours of instrument flight instruction on the appropriate aircraft category, of which not more than 5 hours may be instrument ground time in an FSTD;
-
have completed 20 hours of VFR cross-country flight on the appropriate aircraft category as PIC;
And additionally:

-
hold at least a CPL(A); or
-
hold at least a PPL(A) and have:
-
met the requirements for CPL theoretical knowledge, except for an FI(A) providing training for the LAPL(A) only, and
-
completed at least 200 hours of flight time on aeroplanes or TMGs, of which 150 hours as PIC;
-
-
have completed at least 30 hours on single-engine piston powered aeroplanes of which at least 5 hours shall have been completed during the 6 months preceding the pre-entry flight test;
-
have completed a VFR cross-country flight as PIC, including a flight of at least 540 km (300 NM) in the course of which full stop landings at 2 different aerodromes shall be made;
A pre-entry test of approximately 1 hour with a FIC instructor is to be passed before commencing the course. This is to assess the candidate’s suitability as an instructor and ability as a pilot. The pre-entry test is carried out with Ravenair.
Course consists of a minimum of:
30 hours flight training and 125 hours groundschool, some of which are allocated to self-study.
The syllabus covers all exercises of the Part-FCL PPL plus spinning, allowing the candidate to be shown by the FIC Instructor how to teach a lesson, and then to ‘teach’ it to the FIC Instructor. The groundschool includes the content and how to deliver long briefs and pre-flight briefs for the PPL syllabus.
Assessment of competence
An Assessment of Competence with a Flight Instructor Examiner is taken after completing the course. In addition to a flight test, the candidate is also tested on the giving of a pre-flight brief and lecture, along with some oral questioning.
